Statutory Rape
Dating is a healthy building block in our teens' lives, but things can get complicated when age differences come into play.

In Pennsylvania, sexual activity between someone under 16 years old and someone four or more years older is statutory rape.

The relationship between a teenager and an older teen or young adult can quickly become imbalanced. After all, the ability to drive and earn money gives the older person a lot more power in a relationship.

Discussion Tip:
Be prepared for resistance because many teens don't understand statutory rape laws. Try discussing it from a different angle-ask what motivates an older person to date someone younger. Talk through the importance of healthy relationships that are built on equality.
