Guys and Sexual Assault
Sexual violence is an issue that affects both guys and girls. Because American culture often inundates young males with values that promote male dominance, guys may exhibit aggressive behaviors toward women and may be less able to cope with their own victimization.

One out of every six boys is sexually assaulted by age 18.

It's important to maintain open discussions with teen boys about sexual assault. Guys need to know that resources are available if they have been abused. They also need to understand the importance of respecting girls' decisions and not tolerating their friends' sexist and inappropriate remarks and behaviors.

Discussion Tip:
Just because your teen is a male doesn't mean you're off the hook. It's vital to make boys and men a part of the solution, so talk to your son about respect and power. For male victims, it's important to communicate that they aren't to blame and that help is available.
